Canada won the hockey game today. (In case you’re not reading this today, when I’m writing it, I’m referring to the 2010 winter Olympic games, and the final men’s hockey game between Canada and the United States.) I happen to be in Toronto right now, and from my condo here I can hear, and have been hearing for the last 2 hours, all sorts of people out in the streets celebrating the win, screaming and honking, and blowing horns and noisemakers. Looking out, lots of people are waving Canadian flags from their car windows while driving around, or hanging them out of their windows on their apartments/condos. I don’t watch sports myself, but from conversations with friends, I hear that Canada really played hard, and pulled together especially well in the end for the win. There’s a lot of depressing news going on right now with the giant 8.8 earthquake in chile, the tsunamis reaching Hawaii and now Japan, murders, suicides, and all sorts of economical depression – it’s nice to have something that’s bringing everyone out of their houses to celebrate and to really feel proud and happy about. Go Canada! As I have mentioned before, I am both Canadian and American, so some might say in a way I should also feel sad that the Americans didn’t win, but honestly, to make it to the final games in the Olympics is pretty freakkin’ spectacular, so I’m proud of both teams. (and this is all coming from a non sports fan, ha!)
Being American has always been really good for me. It’s allowed me to travel in both the US & Canada without hassle, and to be to able to work in both countries, legally, but I was born and raised in Canada, and Canada will always be my first home. I do love it here, and I’m proud to be a Canadian. There are a lot of really great things to see and do in Canada, and if you have ever considered visiting Canada, I recommend it. Niagara Falls on the Canadian side is spectacular. The horseshoe falls are absolutely breath-taking, and if you’re brave enough to ride the ‘Maid of the Mist’ (for the record, I’m not!), I hear it’s a pretty amazing thing to experience. My hometown of Toronto has the famous CN tower, that you have to go up in at least once in your life, as well we have the Ontario Science Centre, the Royal Ontario Museum, and a ton of really great places to eat, to party, and to play. I would suggest hitting Toronto in the late spring when the girls are going out without coats, and the skirts are getting shorter due to the warm weather. We have some really beautiful women here in Toronto, and a lot of professional fashion models and actors & actresses are from Toronto, or have gotten their start here. The Toronto International Film Festival is world renowned, and stars come from all over the world to attend.
I could go on and on, but this isn’t some national tourism council ad for visiting Canada – I just wanted to mention a few things that I feel are of interest here. I’ve had the opportunity to travel extensively over the last few years reaching all sorts of places across the US, Jamaica, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, and Moscow among others. I love travelling and experiencing new places and seeing different ways of life, and of course sampling the local men & women (mwah ha ha!) and I look forward to visiting Hawaii and Australia in the near future. (Oh, those Aussie boys make me drool just by speaking!) I’d even like to see if I can go on an African safari sometime in the fall, if all goes well. I’d love to see giraffes in the wild, after all, I am ‘The Giraffe Princess’
For now, I’m in Toronto for the next couple of months while I have my breast augmentation surgery (I’m hoping to set a date tomorrow when I visit my surgeon again!), and recover, but after that, look out world, here comes Violet Marcell, and there’s not much that can stop me now!
Here’s to new experiences!
